I offer fixed fee divorce packages which range from £350.00 if you are on the receiving end or £600.00 plus VAT if you wish to kick start the process.
There are on line firms out there who claim to be able to charge less but what isn’ t immediately apparent to the is that the court fee alone is £410.00 unless you are on extremely low income.
My advice is to only tackle the paperwork if you feel confident enough to complete it without assistance. If your forms are not up to scratch they will be returned by the courts – and you may end up paying a solicitor a small fortune to sort out the mess. You may even have to pay additional court fees along the way to apply to dismiss a petition and start the process afresh.
The danger of a do-it-yourself divorce – without any legal input – is that finances could be split unfairly or the agreed arrangement is difficult to adhere to. It is always wise to seek independent legal advice on a financial settlement first.
A “Do-it-yourself divorce” works best if both sides are in complete agreement about key issues: that the marriage or civil partnership is over; the reasons for the divorce; how assets and belongings will be divided; and how the children will be looked after.
